Technology & Christianity, part 2

NOTE: The text of this post was originally delivered as a lecture at a homeschool convention.

If you look around our world today, you will see that it is in the digital realm more than reality. People are obsessed with their phones so much that they can hardly say hello or drive their car without checking their phones. Tim cook, the founder of Apple, addressed the issue of overuse of smartphones at the 2019 TIME 100 Summit when he said, “If you are looking at a phone more than someone’s eyes, you are doing the wrong thing.” I agree with him. We are a culture so engrossed with our Smartphones and with social media that we are not even taking enough time to into people’s eyes when they are talking to us! We are a culture dominated by the digital world. So, I am going to lay out for you three specific ways the internet is shaping our culture, and perhaps you, and what we can do about it. Now, all this is not to say that technology, internet, and social media are bad things. Quite the contrary. When used properly and in a God-honoring way, they are 1 valuable. The issue does not lie in the things themselves, but in how we use them and how we are influenced by them. For example, I run a website called The Bible Warrior that reaches internet-users with the gospel. I view this as a responsible and honorable way to use the internet, because it influences people in a good way. It teaches the truth and superiority of God’s Word.

Now, let’s get onto the first point. How the internet is shaping our MORAL VIEWS, which means what we believe to be right or wrong. If a culture has poor or no morals, NOTHING can succeed. A moral view of our universe that we live in is an essential thing to have in our world today because we live in an evolution-based society. It wasn't always this way, but our culture today believes that we are merely chemical accidents. But of course, we know that this is not true. We were created by God on purpose, for a purpose, to worship Him and further His kingdom, and to treat our fellow humans with love and respect. So, to have a good moral view is to have a view of what is right or wrong that is in step with God and His Word. But how does all this apply to the influence of the internet that we are talking about? Well, mainstream media has tried ever since the beginning to get us to think a certain way. They are trying to stimulate our thinking and tell us what is right and wrong. And this stems from their own world opinions that they force upon us all day long. They display pictures, videos, and messages that say, “This is good, this is right; come partake in this goodness with us.” But before we cave to the temptations, consider this; would God approve of This? And don’t think that you are immune to that sort of temptation-nobody is. But you, with the power of the Holy Spirit, can conquer those temptations.

Pray a prayer today and ask the Holy Spirit to help you overcome those temptations. a true Bible Warrior is steadfast in the faith, and even when temptation is screaming at them all day, every day, you will resist, because you know that the plan God has for your life trumps whatever the Devil would have you do.

"Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him".
